The Minister for Security and the Rujumbura County Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Jim Katugugu Muhwezi has asked religious leaders to join the government’s efforts of spreading the wealth creation message to Ugandans.
Minister Jim Muhwezi made the call yesterday Sunday 28th September 2025 during the fundraising towards the construction of two classrooms and renovation of other structures at Kanyankyende Primary School in Nyabitete Parish, Bugangari Sub County Rukungiri district.
Hon. Jim who was represented by the Rukungiri Deputy RDC Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom said that religious leaders spend a lot of time in places of worship preaching the religious gospel to believers some of who are languishing in poverty, advising them to instead use part of the sermons, to sensitize people on how to fight poverty through engaging in wealth creation activities and government programs.
He commended Fr. Jeremiah Tumwijukye, Parish Priest Rwengyiri who led the mass at Kanyankyende Catholic Church during the fundraising for preaching the NRM wealth creation message among the believers.
Muhwezi went on and urged religious leaders to stop meddling in politics and stick to their call of preaching the word of God and wealth creation programs to believers.
He donated 50 (fifty) bags of cement, to support the construction of two classrooms at Kanyankyende Primary School.
Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Tumwijukye, Rwengyiri Parish Priest commended Minister Jim Muhwezi for his contribution towards the development of the Parish.
Kembabazi Annet Kanyankyende Primary School head teacher said that the bad condition of the existing structures and shortage of classrooms are the reasons they planned the fundraising event.
Kembabazi thanked Jim Muhwezi for supporting them, promising to use the donated cement for the intended purpose.
Turyakira Angelo, the Chairperson PTA Kanyankyende Primary School asked people to always vote for those who can fix their concerns, citing Hon. Jim Muhwezi as an example who has consistently stood with them.
