Days after 8 lives were lost on Mbarara Masaka road last week, another tragic road crash on this road has claimed four other lives.
The Tuesday morning accident happened at Kyazanga in Lwengo District at around 8;30Am.
Reports from the scene confirmed to the press that the accident involved a trailer, registration number KDL 791T, which was traveling from Kampala towards Mbarara, and a boda boda, registration number UDT 812X.
Eye witnesses at the scene told our reporter that the motorcycle was carrying four occupants, all casual laborers in Lwengo rural sub county at the time of the collision.
Eyewitnesses add that the trailer rammed into the boda boda, killing the rider and all three occupants instantly.
Police and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to document the crash and manage traffic flow along the busy highway.
The bodies of the deceased were later retrieved and taken to a nearby health facility for postmortem examinations as investigations into the exact cause of the accident commenced.
The incident comes just days after another fatal crash that occurred on February 13, 2026, at around 6:30pm at Kibega I village along the Mbarara-Lyantonde Highway in Kiruhura District.
That earlier accident involved a Toyota Hiace (registration UBQ 016U) and a Mercedes-Benz Actros (registration KDQ 668L/ZH 5133), claiming eight lives and leaving one survivor who was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
All the deceased in that crash were occupants of the Toyota Hiace.
The recent accidents have raised growing concerns about road safety on major highways in the region. Authorities have urged motorists and boda boda riders to exercise extra caution, observe traffic regulations, and avoid reckless riding and driving to prevent further loss of life
