The territorial police in Rubanda have arrested one Turihohabwe Matius allegedly for the murder and torture of his children.
This was on Sunday, 1st June 2025 at around 3AM at Kanaba A” village Bubaare ward Bubaare Town council Rubanda district.
The victims are; Natumanya Fortune (deceased) a female juvenile aged 10 years old a pupil at Kitagyenda primary school and, Robert Owomugisha a male juvenile aged 13 years old also a pupil of Kitagyenda primary school.
According to Kigezi Region Police spokesman ASP Elly Maate, tt’s alleged that on 31st May 2025, at about 9Pm, the suspect started beating Natumanya and Owomugisha until when they were breathless.
The eye witness, a sister to the suspect one M/s Nshemerirwe noted that the suspect first tied Owomugisha’s hands and took him to the bedroom at around 5Pm of 31st May 2025 and went and told the sister Nshemerirwe that he found him (Owomugisha) stealing Irish from some one’s garden whom he didn’t reveal neither to the sister nor to the police.
Then at around 7Pm, the deceased (Natumanya Fortunate) went back home with firewood. He also tied her and took her where the brother was.
The sister to the suspect Nshemerirwe Santurina revealed that she tried to move out of the house to call for assistance, but the suspect refused her and threatened to cut her with a panga.
The suspect, after beating the victims properly lying helplessly went and told his sister to get some water and give to the deceased, but she could not swallow it.
That at around 2am the suspect went and woke the neighbors up to go and see whether the duo was still alive or dead, claiming that she had swallowed medicine while going to sleep but was seeing she is not in good condition.
On arrival, the neighbours found when Natumanya was already dead. They called the area chairman, Lawrence Turyahikayo, who on arrival, mobilised the local members and arrested the suspect and took him at Bubaare police Station and Owomugisha (Victim) was taken to Kabale referral hospital, where he is admitted.
The scene was visited and documented, postmortem was done and the suspect in custody for interrogation.
The OC CID & CLO did community policing at the scene, thanked the community for not taking the law into their hands and further restrained parents from beating and mistreating their children/ spouses. Inquiries are still at hand.
