Andrew Kikiira Ankunda, a former hopeful for the Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary seat, has publicly rejected the recent election results during a press conference held at his residence in Rwakebengo Ward, Southern Division of Rukungiri Municipality.
Kikiira expressed gratitude to God for allowing the election process to proceed without violence and thanked the voters for their overwhelming support, despite the unfavorable outcome. He also acknowledged the efforts of his division, ward, and village coordinators for their diligent coordination throughout the campaign.
In his statement, Kikiira raised concerns about the integrity of the election process, alleging instances of voter intimidation and bribery involving some registrars. He emphasized that these unlawful practices tainted the election, undermining the democratic process.
“There was a lot of intimidation aimed at voters, and bribes were given to registrars, which compromised the election.”

Kikiira further claimed that the individual declared the winner lacks legitimate residence in the municipality and had utilized financial incentives to manipulate the outcome. He pointed out that he faced challenges during the nomination process, being labeled a resident of Rubabo without any business ties to Rukungiri Municipality, contradicting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) guidelines.
He noted that fear among voters, stemming from threats of repercussions for accepting money without fulfilling their voting obligations, significantly affected voter turnout.
“Many were afraid to vote due to intimidation, believing that accepting money would lead to severe consequences.”

“I do not agree with the results, but there are more opportunities ahead for us.”
