NEWS-Police have started investigations into circumstances under which City lawyer, Tony Ngobi of Mukwatanise & Co. Advocates died following a fight in a bar.
The incident according to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, happened on October 8 at around 1 am at T.1 bar in Mengo.
Owoyesigyire said Ngobi was pushed by a bouncer and hit his head on concrete before he was rushed to hospital.
Over the weekend, Ngobi, a brother to FDC’s Salaam Musumba succumbed to injuries that resulted into a stroke on his left side of the body and a blood clot on the head that affected his brain.
Brain surgery was done on Friday but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it.
According to a statement shared by his (Ngobi) friends, Ngobi breathed his last on Sunday morning at Mengo Hospital.
His friends say that it all began on the evening of Friday, October 8, 2021, when Tony got into a heated confrontation with bouncers at T. I lounge/bar around Mengo close to LISA clinic where he was a patron.
Owoyesigyire revealed that the bouncer, identified as Muhammad Lubega was arrested over assault and after the death of the lawyer, his charges have now been elevated to murder.
He said Police are now looking for the proprietor and manager of the T.1 bar.
It should be noted that bars have been closed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many of them are illegally operating which is against the presidential guidelines.
