In a significant celebration for 25 years of dedicated service to the community scheduled on 17th November, Ankole Farmers and Traders Co-operative Savings and Credit Society founded on November 17, 2000, with its main branch located in Mayoba Building, High Street, Mbarara having other branches totaling to 17.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the co-operative has made a significant contribution to local healthcare by donating a 2.7 million shillings delivery bed to Rwamahwa Health Center IV in Rukungiri Municipality. This donation aims to address a pressing need in the community, where expectant mothers often face challenges accessing proper healthcare facilities.
Kateeba Nathan, the Chairperson of the Board, expressed gratitude to the leadership of Rukungiri for their support in establishing the local branch. “We are committed to giving back to the community, particularly in areas where we operate,” he stated. Nathan emphasized that the delivery bed will alleviate the burden on mothers who currently have to travel long distances for safe delivery.
The Rukungiri branch manager Sebyaara Dancan Sedu echoed these sentiments, highlighting the co-operative’s mission to support the community as they gear up for the anniversary celebration. “This is our way of thanking the community for their unwavering support over the years,” he said.
Dr. Moreen Atwikiriize, the in-charge of Rwamahwa Health Center IV, welcomed the donation, noting that the health center serves over 9,000 residents and conducts around 60 deliveries each month. “This delivery bed will significantly enhance our capacity to care for mothers and babies, especially as we await the completion of ongoing construction for the maternity ward,” she remarked.
His Worship Charles Makuru, the Mayor of Rukungiri Municipality, also expressed appreciation for the co-operative’s contribution. “This bed will not only assist ordinary residents but will also support deliveries for dignitaries, including doctors and other prominent individuals,” he said.
The donation of the delivery bed is a testament to Ankole Farmers and Traders Co-operative’s commitment to enhancing community welfare. As they prepare for their silver jubilee celebration, the organization aims to continue its legacy of service, focusing on health and well-being in the communities it serves. This anniversary is not just a celebration of the past but a commitment to a brighter future for the people of Rukungiri and beyond.
