In a bid to empower women and promote their rights, Fiona Masika, a lawyer and legal officer at All in One Women Association (ALOWA), emphasized the importance of legal knowledge during a recent event held at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality.
ALOWA, established in 2004, focuses on helping women across Uganda understand their rights, particularly concerning land and family law.
Masika addressed the pressing issues of land grabbing and domestic violence, noting the rising number of cases reported to legal offices. To combat these challenges, ALOWA has initiated training programs aimed at educating communities about their legal rights and how to defend them effectively.
The event also featured remarks from Barnabas Tugumisirize, the team leader of ALOWA, who commended the attendees for their active participation.
He highlighted that these educational sessions not only help individuals recognize and assert their rights but also play a crucial role in reducing the volume of cases that flood legal offices and courts.
Participants, including Beijuka Joseph and Millia Nabaasa, shared their positive experiences, praising ALOWA for equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate legal challenges.
They expressed that the training has significantly improved their understanding of court procedures, enabling them to handle cases more effectively and with greater confidence.
Through initiatives like these, ALOWA continues to make strides in fostering a more informed and empowered female population in Uganda, paving the way for a more peaceful coexistence.
