It was a somber mood in Kagorogoro cell, Murama Parish in Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri district on Thursday as hundreds gathered to send off Zirihoona Henry, a teacher who collapsed and died in classroom.
The incident happened on Wednesday morning at Murago Primary School in Murama Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub County when Zirihoona, a retired teacher, was teaching a P.7 class pupils who are preparing for their National Examinations, Primary Leaving Examinations PLE.
A pupil who was in class at the time of the incident told this reporter that they saw teacher Zirihoona suddenly falling in class as he taught them at around 8:00 a.m. It’s said that First aid was administered immediately, but Zirihoona unfortunately died almost an hour later.
The deceased Zirihoona Henry, was raised up in Kagorogoro Cell, Murama Parish and retired from teaching in 2019. Despite his retirement, he continued to privately teach P.7 candidates at Murago Primary School who were uncertainly unaware of their teacher’s strike fete.
Mr. Pancrasio Ndyamuhaki, a resident of Kagorogoro Cell, expressed deep sorrow, noting that Tr. Zirihoona had experienced a similar fainting episode about a month ago, but had recovered after receiving timely medical attention.
The Nyakishenyi LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Wednesday Twinomujuni, who was a longtime friend of the deceased, confirmed that Tr. Zirihoona had recently fallen ill and sought medical attention at Doctors Case Clinic in Rukungiri Town. Despite this, he resumed his teaching duties on Monday before the tragic incident.
