Kyamakanda Secondary School has today awarded 515 students primarily from senior One, Two and Five with certificates of completion for their efforts throughout a one-week patriotism training exercise . The event took place at the school playground, in Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District.

The training, organized annually, aims to instill core values such as love for the country, discipline, and responsibility among the learners. Nathan Tumwesigye, the school patron, expressed pride in the students’ achievements, noting that all participants successfully completed the program. Headteacher David Turyamusima Kapiira emphasized the importance of this training, highlighting that starting next year, teachers will also undergo similar patriotism training to reinforce these values across the school community.

In his address, Turyamusima urged students to uphold the principles they learned during the training, particularly as many may pursue careers in security forces such as the Uganda Police, Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), and Uganda Prisons Service. He stressed that the skills and values acquired during the training would serve them well in their future endeavors.

Vital Bashasha, the Rukungiri District Patriotism Coordinator, underscored the significance of such programs, stating that it is his mandate to implement them as the Constitution requires every Ugandan to be patriotic. He emphasized that the training primarily targets young people, who are essential to the nation’s future. Bashasha explained that the one-week training focused on four key ideologies: knowledge, financial literacy, sanitation and hygiene, and physical fitness. These areas are crucial for preparing students to become responsible citizens.

Henry Ngateireyo, Chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), also addressed the students, encouraging them to remain disciplined, respect their parents and teachers, and maintain a determined outlook toward their futures. He highlighted the role of parents and educators in guiding the students on their paths.

The ceremony’s guest of honor, Nelson Alex Mugabe, Chairperson of the Board of Governors and Mayor of Kebisoni Town Council, called on the public to embrace a transformation of the mind, hands, and heart for national development. His remarks resonated with the students and attendees, reinforcing the importance of patriotism and personal growth.

This ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of the students but also aimed to foster a culture of responsibility and national pride among Uganda’s youth, ensuring a brighter future for the nation.
