A large congregation has gathered at Ruruku Playground in Rukungiri to pay their final respects to Kashumbusha Laurence Tycoon, who passed away at the age of 58.
Born in 1967, Tycoon left behind a legacy of service in local government, along with four children and nine siblings. His passing has left a profound impact on the community he served for many years.
During the memorial service, Father Conrad Atuhaire, the parish priest of Nyakibare Parish, delivered a powerful sermon that resonated deeply with attendees. He emphasized the importance of carrying one’s cross in life, reminding mourners that everyone faces challenges, whether personal or societal.
“It is your responsibility to carry your cross,” he stated, encouraging those present to embrace their struggles with strength and resilience.
Father Atuhaire specifically addressed Monica Batabiire, Tycoon’s widow, urging her to continue carrying her husband’s legacy. “You have supported him in life; now, as a widow, carry him in spirit,” he said, recognizing the vital role she played during their marriage.
Family members shared heartfelt reflections during the service, highlighting Tycoon’s unwavering support. His Siblings and children spoke of him as a dedicated father who cared for them in both good times and bad.
Monica Batabire the wife of the late Tycoon counted their journey together, noting that they started from humble beginnings and that Tycoon’s hard work had led to their current success.
“He was a responsible man who always put family first,” she said, urging her children to uphold the values he instilled in them.
Tumwesigye Ambrose Kibuuka, Vice Chairperson of NRM Rukungiri, represented prominent figures, including President Museveni and Minister of Security Hon. Major Gen. Jim Muhwezi.
Kibuuka described Tycoon as a friendly and dedicated individual who loved his family and community. He announced financial condolences totaling 11.5 million shillings, with contributions from President Museveni (8 million), Minister Muhwezi (2 million), and Rukungiri District NRM leadership (1.5 million).
Natukunda Medius Kaharata highlighted Tycoon’s patriotism and commitment to the NRM, urging the community to emulate his values of unity and service.
“Let us honor his memory by loving our country and supporting one another,” he said.
As the service concluded, mourners were reminded of Tycoon’s lasting legacy—one of dedication, love, and community service that will continue to inspire future generations.
