In a landmark victory, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won all nine youth leadership positions in the Rukungiri municipality elections held today at the Rukungiri Main Stadium.

The electoral event aimed to select youth leaders for crucial roles, including Youth Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, General Secretary, and secretaries for Finance, Sports, Culture, Publicity, Labour Affairs, and Female Affairs.

The elections saw participation from youth delegates across various parishes, with a clear show of support for NRM over its main competitor, the People’s Freedom Front (PFF). The complete sweep by NRM underscores a robust endorsement from the youth community, signaling their commitment to the party and its policies.

Deputy RDC of Rukungiri District, Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom, praised the youth for their engagement and expressed gratitude for their trust in the NRM. He emphasized that the election results reflect a strong desire for stability and governance among the youth.

“This victory marks a significant step in our fight against the opposition in Rukungiri,” Ongom stated, urging contesting candidates from other parties to recognize NRM’s dominance in local governance.

Twinamatsiko Isaac, elected as the Youth Secretary for Finance, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support. He linked the victory to a deep-rooted loyalty to President Museveni and the NRM, emphasizing the youth’s readiness to mobilize for the upcoming general elections.

In contrast, Ainebyona David, a PFF candidate who did not secure a seat, acknowledged the fairness of the electoral process. He encouraged his party members to regroup and strategize for future elections, demonstrating sportsmanship despite the setback.

Akandinda Bruce, an NRM youth leader, highlighted the importance of unity in supporting the party. He warned that leadership from opposition parties often results in lost opportunities for youth in accessing government services. “We must remain committed to NRM if we want to secure our future,” Bruce asserted.

Kashumbusha Laurence Tycoon, Chairperson of NRM Eastern Division, echoed these sentiments, thanking the youth for their enthusiastic participation and the Rukungiri Electoral Commission for ensuring a peaceful election process.

He also recognized the support from government officials, including Minister of Security Major Gen. Jim Muhwezi, for their motivation and encouragement.

This decisive victory for NRM not only illustrates the party’s stronghold among the youth but also sets the stage for continued engagement and leadership in Rukungiri municipality, paving the way for future initiatives and projects aimed at youth development.
