In an executive council meeting held in the Municipal Council Hall Rukungiri Municipality, His Worship Mayor Charles Makuru urged municipal council members to ensure that all road renovations are properly marramed. This call to action comes as part of the municipality’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Mayor Makuru highlighted Rukungiri Municipality’s impressive achievements over the past year. According to a report from the Prime Minister’s Office, Rukungiri ranked third nationwide in the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), following Ruburizi and Akwania. Additionally, it secured the top position among urban councils, cities, and municipalities across Uganda, maintaining its leadership status in the Kigezi Region.

As part of its 2025 agenda, the municipality is focusing on key road projects, including the Kakonkoma Road (2.96 km), Kakyeeka-Nyabukunku Road (2.23 km), Kareere-Kiziko Road (1 km), and Nyakibare-Katwekamo Road (6.16 km). Mayor Makuru called on area councilors to ensure the proper execution of these projects and engage community stakeholders to foster collaboration.

Tumwesigye Isiah, the Town Clerk, reported that municipal government schools have been struggling with poor academic performance. He attributed this challenge to insufficient food provision for students, as many parents prioritize private schools that offer meals, leaving government school students at a disadvantage. Isiah urged councilors to encourage parents to support their children’s nutritional needs, emphasizing that a well-fed student is more likely to succeed academically.

Deputy RDC Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom reinforced the importance of oversight in project execution. He urged councilors to monitor the completion of government projects and report any issues, such as corruption or absenteeism, to the RDC’s office for swift action.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to enhance infrastructure and educational support, reflecting Rukungiri Municipality’s dedication to the welfare of its residents.
