Rukungiri-Kanungu Sports Gala Showcases Youth Talent

In a dynamic effort to enhance and develop young talent, the Rukungiri-Kanungu sports cluster today held an exhilarating football competition for both boys and girls, held at the lively Makobore High School playground. This event was supported by several Compassion schools and featured multiple community development projects, bringing together a wide range of young athletes.

Among the prominent participants were Rwerere CDC, Bugangari CDC, Rukungiri CDC, Ndago CDC, Kakinga CDC from Kanungu, Rubaare CDC in Ntungamo, and Katagata CDC from Mitooma district. Each project contributed to the vibrant atmosphere, showcasing the enthusiasm and dedication of young players eager to excel in sports.

After an exciting series of matches, Katagata CDC emerged as the champion for both categories. The boys’ team triumphed over Ndago CDC, while the girls’ team defeated Kakinga CDC in nail-biting finals. In addition to winning trophies, Kakinga CDC was awarded two goats, symbolizing their hard work and achievements.

Following the victory, Natwijuka Brendah, Chairperson of the Social Committee and the event coordinator, expressed her satisfaction with the competition’s organization. “We aimed to dig deeper and explore the talents of our youth. It’s rewarding to see children benefiting from their sporting abilities,” she remarked, noting the importance of football and athletics in the development of young people.

Bishop Michael Grace Okello of the Revival Mission Center Rukungiri also addressed the crowd, encouraging the youth to diversify their pursuits. “Education and sports complement each other. While academic success is important, engaging in sports helps to relax the mind and foster discipline,” he emphasized.

Agaba Hiraly, Deputy CAO of Rukungiri, represented the government at the event, commending Katagata CDC for their outstanding performance. He encouraged teams that did not win to persevere and practice, assuring them that improvement would come with dedication.

Rev. Munturive Nshabaruhanga, the chief guest and Diocesan Secretary of North Kigezi Diocese, highlighted the significance of teamwork and collaboration beyond the sports arena. “This event is a celebration of hope and discipline. Remember, no one wins alone,” he said, inspiring children to utilize their blessings to achieve great things.
