Residents of Bikurungu Town Council are expressing their frustration over a blockade created by local resident Muhumuza Rubanzana, who has allegedly fenced off access to the newly constructed Bikurungu Seed Secondary School. The blockage has raised significant concerns among parents and students, particularly as many students relied on this route to reach the school.
Local residents, including students and community members like Asiimwe Herbert and Charity, reported that the closure is causing severe challenges. The route, previously used by students and contractors for transporting construction materials, has now been rendered inaccessible, complicating the daily commute for many.
In light of these challenges, the community is calling for government intervention to restore access to the school, emphasizing that it is critical for the students’ educational pursuits.

Mayor Kajunwa Wallen of Bikurungu Town Council commented on the situation, stating he has been in communication with the contractor and landowners nearby. He expressed surprise at the claims that Rubanzana had blocked the route, explaining that there had been prior agreements to maintain access through their properties. Mayor Wallen assured parents that classes are in session, and volunteer teachers have been secured while the government works on staffing the school.
The Mayor encouraged parents to allow their children to enroll, emphasizing the importance of education despite the ongoing issues with route access.
