The government through the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) has issued tough guidelines to head teachers, warning that those that won’t comply are likely to face demotion or miss salaries.

Cleophus Mugenyi, Commissioner for Basic Education and Acting Head for Basic and Secondary Education, said head teachers have a tendency of neglecting their work and overload teachers, affecting learners’ performance.

He said that the tendency of walking around the school like a boss should end and asked them to fully engage in all school activities.

Among the tough guidelines include government schools to avoid extorting money from parents, noting that despite allowing schools in urban districts to charge some small fees, they are not allowed to exploit parents.

He revealed that there is a Universal Primary Education (UPE) school in Kajjansi Town Council that charges more than some private schools, and parents have since written to the minister of education, Ms Janet Museveni.

He made the remarks while addressing the Wakiso head teachers’ meeting at Wakissha Resource Centre.
