A total of 59 candidates have been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission on the second day of nominations for various positions in Rukungiri Municipality at district council hall, the designated nomination center.
The race for the Mayoral seat has so far attracted two candidates and among these includes Kansiime Boaz Matita (NRM) and Ngabirano Denis (PFF).
Addressing press after his nomination, Kansiime Boaz Matita expressed confidence in his ability to deliver effective leadership, pledging to prioritize service delivery and accountability if elected.
Denis Ngabirano, also aspiring mayor for Rukungiri Municipality pledged to champion inclusive development, improved healthcare, education, and agricultural transformation.
Speaking with our reporter, Namara K Abas, the Rukungiri district returning officer, advised candidates intending to contest in Rukungiri municipality to submit their nomination files for verification since the exercise will end tomorrow Wednesday 10th September 2025.
Namara also issued a strict warning against any pre-campaign activities before official communication in November, warning that violators may face disqualification.
For the Councilors, a total of 57 candidates from three divisions of Rukungiri Municipality were nominated in the first two days.
