NEWS- The territorial police in Rukungiri registered a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of three people. This occurred on Monday, May 19th 2025 at around 8Pm at Rwabigangura cell, Kebisoni town council along Rukungiri Ntungamo road in Rukungiri district.
According to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman Motor vehicle Reg no UBJ 330Y TOYOTA HIACE(PSV) was involved in a head-on collision with UFH 694X Bajaj Boxer.
Maate identified the deceased persons as Agirabyona Danson, a 38 year old passenger on motorcycle, resident of Kajara County in Ntungamo district, the rider of m/cycle reg. no. UFH 694X whose particulars could not be established and an unidentified female passenger on the same motorcycle.
Maate adds that other victims are; Ruhangaariho Apollo, driver of the taxi UBJ 330Y, 20 year old Nahurira Gift who was a passenger in taxi. Other victims, number not yet established.
It’s alleged that, while the rider of motorcycle reg. no. UFH 694X was from Rukungiri town heading to Ntungamo side, carrying two passengers and he (rider) deviated from his lane, ending up colliding with Toyota Hiace reg. no. UBJ 330Y leading to the death of the rider and his two passengers on the spot.
Ruhangaariho Apollo the driver of the taxi is admitted at an unknown private clinic for medical attention while Nahurira Gift is admitted at Nyakibale hospital for medical attention.
The scene was visited and documented, sketch plan drafted and the three bodies were taken to Rwakabengo health centre mortuary for postmortem according to Maate.
The Police PRO added that the vehicle and motorcycle wreckage are parked at CPS pending IOV inspection while the primarily cause of the accident was reckless riding by the motorcyclist.
Relatedly, the Police in Kanungu District have registered a fatal accident that involved motorcycle registration number UFW 808 N being ridden by 37 year old Denis Twebaze a resident of Kateramu Village in Kikongi Parish in Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri District who died on spot.
The deceased is reported to have had a head on collusion with motorcycle registration number UEP 852E being riden by 25 year old Niwamanya Ivan a resident of Buyondo village in Northern Ward of Nyamirama Town Council who sustained serious injuries.
A passenger on motorcycle registration number UEP 852E identified as Niwagaba Festo also survived the accident with injuries and was rushed to nearby health facilities by good Samaritans.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident which took yesterday evening at Karoni Cell in Western Ward of Nyamirama Sub-county and said that it is alleged that the rider of motorcycle registration number UFW 808N was coming from Kihihi side and heading to Rukungiri when he left his lane and rammed into the oncoming motorcycle registration number UEP 852E.
Maate told journalists that the scene of accident was visited by Police Officer Matamda and team who rushed the injured victims to the nearest Hospital for treatment and the body of the deceased was taken to Nyamirama Health Center III for a postmortem examination before it was handed over to the relatives for burial.
The Police documented a rough sketch of the scene of the accident and the two motorcycles were towed to Nyamirama Police Station pending Inspection by Police as investigations continue.
