OPINION– MY OPEN LETTER TO MAAMA JANET MUSEVENI.
Dear Maama Janet Museveni,
Praise God for keeping us alive amdist all the challenges we have been through as a nation.
I am one of the Ugandan citizens who call you maama by choice. I hope my opinion in this letter finds you well and if it offends you, find a heart to forgive me.
I understand you always take time off your busy schedule to watch and read about what is transpiring in our country Uganda on a daily basis.
In this letter, my point of specification is hinged around the re-opening of schools.
Dear Maama Janet, on behalf of my agemates, and my fellow students, am writing to notify you that you have absolutely let us down.
As we commenced this second phase of lockdown, our hopes were that as it comes to an end, we shall have atleast been vaccinated so that we comfortably go back to school. I would like to tell you that one of the hurting circumstances is that up to now, we are the very way we came for the fact that up to now, we have not been vaccinated as you are playing us around by encouraging teachers to get fully vaccinated.
I would like to remind you that the number of students in Uganda outweigh that of teachers meaning even if all the teachers are vaccinated, it might make little sense for them to go back to school and expose themselves to the biggest number of students who are not vaccinated.
Please Maama Janet, it’s not that am pessimistic but I would like to remind you that Covid is absolutely unpredictable meaning we can’t tell when it will totally come to pass so that we restore our initial ways of living meaning keeping us home without any hopes of school re-opening is really a mere play of hide and seek.
Dear Maama Janet, I would like you to remind beloved president Museveni that whoever delivers information to him is really misinforming and misguiding him. I am saying so with very practical evidences. I would like to tell you that it’s quite humourously ironical when we hear the president saying the bars are closed. Please Maama Janet,be informed that the bars everywhere are operating normally with their sister business of lodges respectively.
Dear Maama Janet, I would like to inform you that I have spent a week doing random sampling by using means of public transport. Please, be informed that the public transport is functioning normally where by there is no single SOP that is followed within the cycle of public transport.
Dear Maama Janet, I have always taken my adequate time to read and watch different episodes of news that is reporting about the early pregnancies acquired by school going children who are currently locked down at home.
It’s quite unfortunate that of recent, I saw President Museveni saying pregnancy doesn’t kill. Really? Who doesn’t know that pregnancy may be escorted with sexually transmitted diseases and other related problems?
It’s a total mockery when you keep on telling us to embrace online studies yet you are silently watching the challenges that go hand in hand with online studies.
All in all I would like to end here by encouraging you through reminding you that;
Students have lost hope
Bars are normally functioning yet we are always more organized at school than in a bar.
Lodges are functioning normally.
Public transport is functioning normally.
The closure of schools has taken a Long time yet without vaccinating students and what you pretend to think that is closed is entirely functioning normally.
Therefore, please come to our rescue and open the schools within the shortest possible time.
Agaba Gordon.
A student.
