MBARARA– Military officials from Uganda and Rwanda are currently in 3 days engagement, aimed at fortifying border security and combating transnational crime. The three-day gathering that commenced today 29 August 2024 in Mbarara City brings together high-ranking proximity Commanders from Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force and Rwanda Defense Force
The primary objective of the meeting is to enhance collaboration between the armed forces of both nations and devise effective strategies to address security concerns along the shared border. It’s about prosperity for cross border communities and regional prosperity of our Nations.
Highlighting the longstanding partnership between Uganda and Rwanda, the Chairperson LCV Kabale district, Mr Nelson Nshangabashija underscored the need for continued cooperation and mutual support in safeguarding their common interests and further highlighted that the current improved relations have helped to calm down crime along the borderline.
Brig Gen Nelson Rwigema, the RDF Second Division commander expressed optimism regarding the outcomes of previous discussions, foreseeing positive impacts on legal cross-border trade and the resolution of issues affecting border communities.
“The good relations enjoyed by two nations are exemplified by increased interaction between the people of Uganda and Rwanda through communication and trade among others ” he said.
