NEWS- The Uganda Communication Commission UCC has tasked Africel to clear all the debts before exiting the country.
Earlier this week, the telcom company ‘Africell’ announced it’s plans to exit the country after seven years of citing alot of difficulties in the business environment.
UCC as the regulatory body of all communication companies in the country confirmed Africell’s exit in a notice dated 8th September 2021 but stressed that all shall go well only the company settles all it’s debts.
UCC noted that this move is aimed at safeguarding the interests and rights of all Africell customers, agents, employees, trade creditors among others.
The regulatory body appealed to the general public that whoever has has any claims against the exiting company to immediately contact it to work them out before October 7, 2021.
The Commission further said its working with sister agencies to ensure that Africell complies with the required laws before exiting.
Africell entered the Ugandan telecom market in 2014 after acquiring majority shares in Orange Uganda Limited.
The company has been boosting more than 3,000,000 active subscribers offering 2G, 3G and 4G network currently controls 7% of the Ugandan market share.
