KAMPALA- The ministry of works and transport has called on all road users to exercise caution and vigilance while using the roads as the country heads to festive season.
According to the Minister of works and transport Gen Katumba Wamala “let’s avoid excuses of narrow roads because that’s always the excuse when we get into accidents. Now we are warning you, the roads are not going to get wider over the festive season; they’re the same you have been driving on”.
Katumba adds that “during the last year’s festive period, the country lost 60 lives within a period of 7 days, some got various injuries, so as government, we’re committed to firmly reverse the trend through various interventions”.
Minister thus issued out directives to be followed by all road users as the country heads to this year’s festive season.
Minister Katumba says all buses whose journeys are beyond 300km shall not have return journeys within 24 hours and only buses with valid route charts and PSV licenses shall be allowed to operate.
No school bus shall be allowed or any private vehicle that is not authorized by the ministry to carry passengers and all bus drivers must possess valid driving licenses and driver badges at all times while driving.
Minister Katumba adds that Traffic police is to step up enforcement across the country through the festive season with a focus on keeping the road safe.
The Minister said this while addressing the media at the media centre today in Kampala about the road safety measures ahead the festive season.
