News coming in indicates that three people died on spot by electrocution after power theft into the house.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deceased are Asiimwe Babirye 35, Annet 24 and Jeremiah Sekalenzi 5 and they are all residents of Kasenge trading centre.

Owoyesigyire added that the incident happened today morning at around 7am in Kasenge Trading centre and the case has been recorded at the territorial police Nsangi.

The Police have observed that the house where the deceased family was renting had no power and so they illegally tapped power from the neighborhood.

It is alleged that Annet washed clothes before she hanged them wet on one of the wires that had a link to power connection and the electricity shook her.

After the shock, her hands remained in contact with the live wire the act that made her make an alarm which attracted her sister Babirye Asiimwe who came out of the house to help her but unfortunately when she touched her with bare hands to save her she was also electrocuted.

It is further alleged that Asiimwe too made an alarm and her five-year-old child Sekalenzi who came to help his mother was electrocuted and the trio died instantly.

The neighbours came and disconnected the wire from the power, the deceased’s bodies were later conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for a post mortem.

Owoyesigyire cautioned members of the public to avoid illegal power connections stressing that it is a criminal offence for anyone to illegally connect their residence to the national grid.

He noted that the police is working with power distributors to arrest people that have illegal connections in the area and Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The detectives have commenced investigations with a view of arresting the person who illegally connected the residence to power.
