Security guard shoots himself dead in Buhweju

ANKOLE- The Police in South Western Uganda’s Buhweju District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 21-year-old security guard who allegedly took his own life by shooting himself.

The accident according to SSP Marcial Tumusiime the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesman told the press that the incident happened on the morning of April 27, 2025.

SSP Tumusiime identified the deceased as Victor Turyamuhaki, who was an employee attached to AGRI Security Ltd and deployed at Muhame Financial Services, Butare branch, in Kashenyi-Kajani Town Council.

Pellan Orishaba, a resident in the area where the incident occured alleges that Turyamuhaki returned to his post on the night of April 26 around 10:00 PM, armed with an SMG rifle, went to bed in full uniform. 

At around 5:55 AM the following morning, he reportedly began cleaning his gun, but moments later, a gunshot was heard, and he was found lifeless on his bed.

Orishaba immediately alerted a colleague of the deceased, Nicholas Ariinda, 19, who then reported the incident to the police.

Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Marcial Tumusiime confirmed the incident, stating that an SMG rifle and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene. The body was taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV for postmortem as investigations continue.

Police were yet to issue a statement regarding this incident by press time.
