“Buyanja My Roots” has donated relief items worth Ugx. Six million to students of Kyamakanda Senior Secondary School in Rukungiri district who lost all their belongings in a fire outbreak on 17th February 2023.
The affected students numbering 54 from “Moon” dormitory received items from ‘Buyanja My Roots” and they include 54 suit cases, 25 cartons of exercise books, and in addition, they contributed materials towards the reconstruction of dormitory among which include four trips of Sand, 3,000 bricks, and other construction materials.
The fire which swept through boys’ Moon dormitory when the students were having their evening prep was believed to have been set by the arsonist.
Speaking during the handover ceremony which was held at school premises today Monday morning, Mr. Benjamin Kwikiriza aka Br. Ben the chairperson “Buyanja My Roots” Rukungiri chapter who led the team narrated that they intervened to help parents and students who are currently in an economic crisis and could not easily replace the lost items during this hard time forcing them to come for their rescue.
Benjamin advised the students to be disciplined and avoid strikes if they are to be successful in their academic journey.
Kwikiriza assured students that if well used; the donated items will help them to catch up academically and will perform well in exams.
Kennedy Mutungyisa the member and deputy coordinator of Social scheme of Buyanja My Roots narrated that they have done what they can calling other well-wishers to come and help these students who lost their properties.
Mrs. Joy Kagambo the vice chairperson Kyamakanda Secondary School Board of Governors revealed that the students should use the donated items to read and work hard in a bid to have good academic results.
Speaking with some of the fire victims, they hailed Buyanja My Roots for the love rendered during this hard time promising for better results.
