Teachers Given First Priority in Covid 19 Vaccination Exercise

RUKUNGIRI-Teachers have been asked to go for covid 19 vaccinations as one of the requirement for schools to reopen.

The call was made by Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner RDC Mr. Bewayo Nsubuga Stephen during an exclusive interview with our reporter on the current Covid 19 status within the district.

During the weekend, Rukungiri district received 2,492 dozes of modulo covid 19 vaccines which are meant for people who are taking first jab and 640 AstraZeneca vaccines for people mainly taking the second jab.

Speaking with our reporter, RDC Nsubuga who is also the chairman Covid 19 Task force encouraged all teachers in Rukungiri to go for vaccination as soon as possible to pave way for full reopening of the sector.

Nsubuga however cautioned owners of bars operating secretly defying presidential directive, explaining that intelligence is on ground and one time they will be arrested under security operations and charged accordingly.

He continued that many people are no longer wearing face masks in public places, observing social distancing and sanitizing narrating that covid 19 is still with us encouraging people to adhere standard operating procedures if to curb the pandemic.

According to current Covid 19 statistics in Rukungiri district, a total of 8,235 people have so far been tested since outbreak of second wave and 1,260 turned positive to the virus.

1,104 cumulative cases have fully recovered, 78 still active and they are all at home based whereas 23 people died.

On Tuesday 5th 2021, 63 samples were tested where three turned positive.
