Rukungiri Muslims tipped on tapping into gov’t development programs

The Rukungiri District Kadhi, Sheikh Abdulmalik Byaruhanga Kayole, has called on Muslims to take advantage of available government programs and to work hard for the development of their families and mosques.

Sheikh Kayole made these remarks today, n9th December 2025, while addressing the Bikurungu Twale structures during a consultative meeting held at Bikurungu Mosque.

The meeting brought together representatives from all 11 mosques under Bikurungu Twale, who were encouraged to focus on strengthening their households and supporting the growth of their mosques and the wider Muslim community.

During the engagement, the Muslim structures were also guided on how to conduct themselves during this election period, with the Kadhi urging them to maintain peace and to choose leaders wisely so that their families, communities, and economic activities remain stable.

Sheikh Kayole further noted that President Yoweri Museveni had supported Muslim women with UGX 2 billion, and encouraged them to form SACCOs and groups to benefit from the funds. He also appreciated the President for consistently supporting Muslims, especially through facilitating those travelling to Mecca .

The Vice Chairperson of the Muslim Community in Rukungiri, Mr. Eddi Misho, encouraged Muslims to actively participate in politics so their community can be represented at various leadership levels.

Misho noted that even if they do not secure high-level positions, Muslims should compete for local leadership roles to ensure their interests are represented and their community uplifted. He emphasized the importance of peace and unity at family level, noting that development begins with a stable, hardworking household.

The County Sheikh of Bikurungu Mosque, Sheikh Asuman Kagwa, together with Mr. Kasim Mucunguzi, the Chairperson of Bikurungu Mosque, praised the District Kadhi for organizing the meeting. They said the discussions allowed members to share ideas on how to foster development starting from their homes and extending to the entire Muslim community.

They expressed optimism that if all deliberations are taken seriously, significant progress will be realized both at family and community level.
