The Rukungiri Municipality legislator Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa on Thursday donated food relief to residents of Nyabihinga cell in Kyatoko ward Eastern Division whose gardens were weeks swept away by gusty winds.
About 59 households were affected after heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms tore apart their gardens including banana plantations, cassava, among others.
The resident’s cries forced Dr. Rutahigwa to intervene and supported each of the affected households with a 10kg bag of posho to help them during such hard times.
In collaboration with Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata the Rukungiri District Woman MP, Dr. Rutahigwa also supported Nyabihinga village with 40 kilograms of high breed maize seeds since its rainy season best for crop growing.
Hon. Rutahigwa confirmed that he will work for his Rukungiri Municipality constituents regardless of their difference in political and religious affiliations.
Ndyanabo Kabaka the area village chairperson thanked Hon. Rutahigwa for positively responding to their cries in such hard situations where most of leaders used to keep dead ears in case they are called upon for help.
Ahimbisibwe Edward Tumwine and Kobusheshe Levina some of the beneficiaries welcomed the donation and the presence of their area legislator promising for more support.
While handing over the donation, Byarugaba Micheal the district councilor representing Western division who also doubles as the Political Assistant for Hon. Rutahigwa revealed that he was sent by his boss to monitor the situation within the area and the report was fully submitted to him.
Meanwhile Hon. Rutahigwa encouraged the Rukungiri Municipality fraternity to welcome and support government programs if they are to develop their families and the entire district.
