Police speaks out on Masaka school fire out break death toll rises to seven

Following the Monday morning school fire that broke up in one of the pupils’ dormitory, Police has on Tuesday confirmed the death toll has risen to seven.

The incident happened at  Kasana Junior Primary School in Nyendo- Mukungwe Division in Masaka City killing two pupils on spot and injuring others.

According to confirmed  reports the deceased are Augustine Hillary Walugembe and Arnold Tumwesigye who died yesterday evening.Tumwesigye died while being rushed in the hospital ambulance from Masaka to Kiruddu Hospital in Kampala.

Others killed in the fire have been identified as Austine Kisomose, Martin Muganga and Jordan Ssendagala from top class in the nursery section among others.

Meanwhile, the school dormitory matron Christine Adong whose phone is said to have sparked off the fire while charging is still admitted in Masaka Hospital in critical condition. 

UPDF armoured Brigade experts, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Police are investigating the matter.

Pupils still in critical condition at Masaka hospital include; Paul Ssenogga, Elijah Ssemambo, Grant Matovu and Alfah Wasswa

A team of inspectors from the Ministry of Education in Kampala had arrived in Masaka over the matter.
