RUKUNGIRI- It was pomp and glamour on Saturday at Bugangari playground in Bugangari Sub County, Rujumbura County in Rukungiri District as tens of thousands converged at the final day of Jim Cup 2025 edition.
The tournament was organized and funded by the Rujumbura county legislator who’s also the Rujumbura County MP Maj. Gen Jim Muhwezi Katugugu in a bid to identify and develop talents.
The competition drew participants from all sub counties and town councils in Rujumbura County who started from the Parish level in 2024, later to inter-Sub counties that came to climax yesterday.
Bwambara emerged the winners after defeating Nyakagyeme by a goal to as Rwerere were crown champions of the Females football competition after beating Ruhinda by two goals to nil. Bugangari emerged the third after defeating Ruhinda Sub County on penalty shoot outs after a 2 goal draw in normal time of the play.
The winners of men’s football went home with Ugx 3 Million cash prize, trophy, and medals as the second went home 2.5 million. All competitors went home with cash prizes all by the Minister Jim Muhwezi and an additional by the Chief guest.
While officiating at the function, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa represented by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi hailed Minister Jim Muhwezi for the spirit of supporting sports that will in future earn for the youths.
Baryomunsi promised to cooperate with the district leaders in Parliament including Woman MP Hon Midius Natukunda Kaharata and Municipality MP Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa who were also present at the function to work on pressing issues affecting the people of Rujumbura.
Minister Muhwezi on his part hailed his constituents for participating in this tournament and promised to support them wholly.
Muhweizi promised to support Bugangari residents to work on their playground to a better one. On the issue of roads and electricity, Minister Muhwezi promised that he is soon visiting the sub county for parish Baraza meetings and that all shall be discussed and done in a few coming months.
Revelers at the event were treated to maximum entertainment from leading Ugandan artistes led by Eddy Kenzo, Ronald Mayinja, Ray G, Rasta Charz, Lady Mariam Tindatiine, Bonde Moses, Musimenta Florence among others.
