Parish chief, local SACCO leaders arrested over PDM cash

NEWS– The police in Kumi district are holding four people in connection to soliciting money from PDM cash beneficiaries.

The arrested according to police is 

Mr. Ityakorit Edmond, the parish chief of Oladot,Mr. Ojuma Anthony, the chairman of the Oladot Sheep Keeping SACCO, Mr. Ongodia Sliver, the secretary, and Mrs. Acham Teddy, the treasurer.

It is alleged that between June 2023 and May 2024, the above suspects allegedly solicited money from SACCO members for enrolment in the Parish Development Model (PDM) scheme.

Information received by Kumi’s Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Washaki Muhammad indicated that these executive members requested payments from individuals to secure their status as beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model.

Following this report, the RDC and a team from the police at Kumi Police Station arrested the suspects and charged them with obtaining money by false pretence.

 It was found that not all members who were enrolled actually received benefits from the PDM.
