The Minister for Security and the Rujumbura County area Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi yesterday Wednesday received over 650 former FDC and other opposition supporters from Nyakagyeme and Rwerere town council who crossed to the Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The event took place at Masya Primary School and Nyakagyeme Sub County headquarters respectively and it was attended by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Rukungiri district Mr. Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom among other NRM leaders.

Upon welcoming the converts, Minister Jim Muhwezi, the NRM chairman for Rukungiri district, stated that the NRM is committed to non-sectarianism, nationalism, pan-Africanism, and socioeconomic reform.

They were welcomed warmly by Muhwezi, who said they had made the right choice in joining the broad-based and well-focused NRM party.

Jim Muhwezi stressed the need of group responsibility in tackling the nation’s problems and exhorted the new members to join the battle against rural poverty.

Minister Jim Muhwezi stated that NRM’s ability to treat people’s problems is the reason for their engagement in leadership.

Some of the crossed-over supporters, including Tumuhimbise Sezi, Davis Salongo Timurekura former Rukungiri district chairperson LC5 aspirant on FDC ticket, Tumusiime Seresi, Naturinda Eunice, Kashaija Keresezio, and Turinawe Jackson, the former commander of Power Ten in Nyakagyeme declared that they are officially joining the NRM party, claiming that they have come to their senses and realized that the FDC top leadership has been deceiving them.

They further stated that the way their Forum Democratic Change (FDC) leaders abandoned them, even in difficult times, is what led them to join NRM.

They also commended Minister Jim Muhwezi for grading the playground at Masya Primary School, which they had been in need of for many years and at a cost of more than Ugx. 30 million.
