The security minister and the Rujumbura County member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi has encouraged the youth to be patriotic and use their mobilization talents to influence development of the country.
Minister Muhwezi disclosed that the NRM Government had developed programmes that empower the youth to find or create jobs and change their lifestyles.
The minister was addressing hundreds of youth from Nyakibale Catholic parish in Rukungiri district yesterday Sunday 8th January 2022 during the closure of a four days youth conference which started on Wednesday last week and the function held at Nyakibale Parish in Eastern Division Rukungiri municipality.
Muhwezi revealed that youth are the leaders of today and tomorrow urging them that it is their responsibility to ensure whatever goes on in the country is in the right direction giving an example of ensuring security and development.
Meanwhile Minister Jim called on government school head teachers to stop chasing away pupils from school over fees narrating that this has led to school drop outs especially boys who later resort to drug abuse and drinking alcohol.
Muhwezi said failure of a parent to pay extra charges should not be an excuse to chase pupils away explaining that this frustrates the education programmes of the country.
During the conference, Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament urged youth to be disciplined and concentrate on their studies if they are to succeed in their lives.
Hon. Natukunda added by encouraging youth to desist from engaging themselves in sexual activities
Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom the Rukungiri Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) urged the youth to work hard and properly use their time to polish their skills for development and a bright future for themselves as well as the country.
DRDC Ongom termed the youth as an engine for a bright future, advised them to get education with dedication and come up with innovative ideas for the uplift of the country.
He however urged them to abstain and avoid cross-generation sex in a bid to prevent contracting HIV/AIDs and other sexually related diseases.
Fr. Silverio Twinomugisha the Nyakibale Catholic Parish Priest thanked the government of Uganda under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the good work done towards the development of the country and defeating of the deadly pandemics.
