SAD– Anger engulfed the residents of Lokwamoru village, Narisae parish in Lorengedwat town council in Nabilatuk district when one of their locals was shoot dead by a Local Defence Unit personnel.
The deceased was identified as Jorem Egwau, 18 an up coming long distance runner and aresident of the same address.
it is said that Egwau was in the wee hours of Saturday 11th September 2021 morning shoot dead by a yet to be identified LDU officer while on his routine morning running exercise.
It is also said that the Local Defence Units personnel claimed they mistook Egwau to be a cattle rustler running away from arrest.
Simon Korobe, a resident of the village noted that the deceased has never in any way conceivable been part of cattle rustlers adding besides being a sports enthusiast, Egwau has been running his mobile money shop in Lorengedwat town council.
Joyce Anyakun, another resident described the deceased as a “jolly boy” who has never had any wrangle with anyone.
Micheal Longole, the Karamoja regional police Spokesperson confirmed the incident describing it as unfortunate as he said that the deceased fell into an ambush laid by LDUs to catch some cattle rustlers adding that he was mistaken to be one of cattle rustlers.
According to Mr.Longole, police have already opened up general inquiries file and he called for calm among residents .
