NEWS– Joint opposition political parties have called for the immediate dropping of charges against Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye and his counterpart Hajj Obed Lutale Kamulegeya.
This was sounded on 9th December 2024 during the joint opposition Mp’s caucus press briefing at Parliament.
The four time presidential candidate and famous opposition leader Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Lutale who are facing security offenses and unlawful possession of firearms.
In a joint statement released during the presser, the opposition leaders condemned the abduction of Kizza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Lutale on 16th November 2024 which they say was in a complete violation of domestic, regional and international laws.
They also condemned the duo’s trial in the military court which according to them has no jurisdiction to try civilians.
The leaders demanded for an end to the trial of civilians in military courts in adherence to the numerous rulings by Uganda’s constitutional court and also that charges are dropped or if not be swiftly transfered to civilian courts.
In attendance was Gregory Mugisha Muntu of ANT, Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu of NUP, Ken Lukyamuzi the man of CP, Elias Lukwago of FDC/PFF, Winnie Kizza of ANT, Doreen Nyanjura of PFF, David Lewis Rubongoya of NUP, Joel Ssenyonyi the Leader of opposition in parliament among many others.
