NEWS- The territorial police in Rubanda are investigating circumstances under which a 30 year old Bruno Tumukunde was lynched, allegedly for theft of Irish potatoes.
The suspect according to Kigezi regional police spokesman ASP Elly Maate together with Rogers Katusiime 23, both residents of Matakara village Ikamiro parish Mukon sub county Rubanda district, on Wednesday evening, at the above address, are alleged to have broken into the store of Adoniya Zikereta and stole eight bags of Irish potatoes worth 1.8m Ugx.
That, at around 23:20hrs, the OC Muko police station ASP Mahiirane Vincent received a phone call from Matakara village that two suspects had been arrested and the mob was beating them seriously.
The police rushed to the scene, rescued and took them to Muko Butare health center for treatment where the nurse on duty feared to admit them because the local residents could still follow and lynch them from there since they were renown habitual criminals.
As the police were still in the process intending to take them to Kabale referral hospital, that’s when they realized that one of them, Bruno was dead.
Two case files of store breaking and theft of Irish potatoes plus that of murder by mob were registered and inquiries are ongoing according to Maate.
The Police spokesman adds that the exhibits were recovered by the complaint and the local residents.
The body was thereafter conveyed to Kabale referral hospital for post mortem and the second suspect Katusiime Rodgers was released on police bond to the mother for medical attention.
In other news, the Police in Kabale district are investigating the cause of death of a renowned Kabale Municipality cobbler.
The incident happened at Kakabano cell, Upper Bugongi ward, Northern division Kabale municipality in Kabale district, during the night of 13/05/2025 at unknown time.
The deceased was only identified by the Police as Nsenga.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesman to the press that on Wednesday, at around 8am, the body of Nsenga was found lying in an open field in Kakabano cell by Byaruhanga Phillip and that on touching him, he realized that he was dead with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.
It’s from here that Byaruhanga informed the chairman of the area and then the matter was reported to Kabale police station for investigations.
The scene was visited by a team of Police Officers from Kabale CPS, Socos, Homicide detectives, Caine (K-9) as well as other uniformed police officers.
The K-9 dog was introduced to the scene to trace for the suspects and any evidence items but didn’t succeed due to the rainy weather.
The scene was processed, examined, documented and the body was retrieved from the crime scene to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Maate appeals to anyone with information that can help lead to the perpetrators, to volunteer it so that they are brought to book since inquiries are underway.
In another incident, the territorial police in Kabale are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified male adult, whose body was discovered floating in the river at Mushenyi “A”village Bigaga parish Butanda sub county Kabale district.
It’s alleged that, on the 13/05/2025, the area chairman of Mishenyi “A” Baburata Edison received information that there was a dead body floating on the water of the small river in his area. He opted to go there by himself together with other local residents and indeed found the body of an unidentified person in the area waters. He reported the matter to Butanda police for the necessary help.
Upon receiving the information, a case file of suspected murder was opened; the homicide team under the command of D/IP Barijunaki Samuel the Acting D/CID/officer Kabale visited the scene of crime and documented it.
The body was retrieved from the scene, taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for examination and statements recorded from the first respondents.
No arrest effected so far and investigations are ongoing according to Maate and that anyone missing their dear one should visit the hospital mortuary, so that is identified and taken for a decent burial.
