Immaculate Heart Girls High School Nyakibale is celebrating a remarkable victory after clinching a trophy in the recent Music, Dance, and Drama competition held in the Kigezi sub-region. The event took place yesterday at Kabare University’s Rukungiri branch, attracting six schools from the region.
Organized by the Association of Secondary Schools Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU), the competition showcased the talents of various schools, including St. Jerome SS Ndama, Kinyasano Girls High School, St. Peter’s SS Nyarushanje, Katete Seed Secondary School, and Kinkizi High School, all vying for top honors.
Immaculate Heart Girls High School emerged victorious with an impressive score of 961 points, followed closely by St. Jerome SS Ndama with 931 points. Kinkizi High School secured third place with 894 points, while Katete Seed followed with 797 points. Kinyasano Girls High School and St. Peter’s Nyarushanje rounded out the competition with scores of 766 and 680 points, respectively.
Ms Allen Kiyasimire, the Chairperson for Headteachers in Kigezi and Headteacher at Kinyasano Girls High School, praised the students for their participation and commitment. She noted a decrease in school turnout compared to last year, attributing it to the late reception of the competition program from the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Kiyasimire encouraged students to maintain their passion for music, dance, and drama, highlighting their potential to uncover talents that could lead to future income-generating opportunities.
“Students should continue to love music, dance, and drama as they help them discover their talents,” Kiyasimire stated.
Medard Kiconco Bamwooya, the Assistant Academic Registrar at Kabale University and a judge for the competition, expressed his appreciation for the students’ enthusiasm.
He recognized the efforts of choir trainers and headteachers in nurturing talent and urged students to utilize their trainers’ expertise to excel further.
“Always use your trainers to learn new tactics and work hard to bring home the national trophy,” Bamwooya advised.
The event not only highlighted the artistic skills of the students but also fostered a spirit of collaboration and community among the schools in the Kigezi region.
