IBANDA-  Five people admitted after consuming contaminated  meat

Five people have been hospitalized in critical conditions after eating meat of dead animals.

The incident occurred in villages of Rugaaga both in Keihangara Sub County, Ibanda South.

Veterinary officials together with health experts in Ibanda District have declared an anthrax outbreak .

The outbreak is linked to infected meat that was sold at a big discount compared to fresh meat.

According to Vincent Mugisha the District surveillance officer Ibanda District, Five people have been so far been  referred to Ibanda hospital after taking meat of dead animals from villages of Rugaaga both in Keihangara Sub County, Ibanda South.

Mugisha says People get anthrax by handling contaminated animals  or animal products, consuming undercooked meat of infected animals and more recently, intentional release of spores.  

Speaking Serushuba Godard the chairperson LC1 Rugaaga 4 Cell said that the victims have been eating meat that was sold at a big discount compared to fresh meat in the past days. Godard says the situation went out of their hands when the victims started to develop skin sores, vomiting.
