KISORO– The Security operatives in Kisoro district have on Sunday intercepted a Fuso truck loaded with 250 suspected stolen goats heading to the neighbouring DRC.
According to Rtd. Capt. Peter Mmugisha the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner, they are suspected to have been stolen from Kisoro and it’s surrounding areas.
Mugisha stressed that the Fuso Truck was intercepted at Kanaba Check Point in Kisoro district after a tip off that the goats could have been stolen from Kiruhuura district by unknown thieves bleaching quarantine guidelines against animal movement in the area due to Foot and Mouth disease outbreak.
Mugisha noted that police are hunting for the owner of the goats but there is still a disgust.
Joseph Kanyabugoyi, the chairperson of Bunagana cross border Traders who claims to be the owner of the goats revealed to our reporter that he bought them from Kiruhura and has all documents from the Kiruhura district Veterinary officer and travel documents allowing him to move from Kiruhura to DRC.
Kanyabugoyi adds that some people who are against him in the district have been trailing his business wondering why two veterinary officers of Kiruhura and Kisoro districts released different information about the health of goats.
A truck driver only identified as Kamuhanda told this reporter that Kanyabugoyi contacted him for business on Saturday at around 10am given to transport goats from Nsangi to Bunagana in Kisoro district but didn’t know who exactly the owner of goats was.
He added that he bypassed Mbarara, Ntungamo, Rukiga, Kabale and Rubanda check points with no interception until in the evening when Police intercepted, arrested him and his turnboy at Kanaba Check Point in Kisoro district.
Capt. Mugisha disclosed that security in Kisoro district has many cases of animals stolen from Mbarara, Rwanda, Ntungamo, Kabale, Rubanda, DRC and Kisoro itself which are mostly transported by Pickup Vehicles.
