NEWS-The police in Mbarara City have explained on the afternoon explosion stressing that it was a gas cylinder not bomb blast.
Rtd Col James Mwesigye the Mbarara City Resident Commissioner told our reporter that the blast occurred when the scrap dealer was cutting a metal piece and cylinder that later exploded.
After the incident, two people confirmed dead on spot while seven others sustained injuries and were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention.
Mwesigye who heads the Security in the city asked scrap dealers around the town to be more vigilant in transacting the business stressing that some metals are liable to explosion once poorly handled.
The incident comes at a time when the country of recent experienced a number of bomb blasts in the city when seven people were killed in a twin bomb blast at CPS Kampala and Parliamentary Avenue.
