Deputy Speaker Tayebwa hails Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for promoting Education

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of North Kigezi Diocese

RUKUNGIRI- The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has hailed Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe for promoting education in his area.

Tayebwa made the remarks on Sunday while officiating as the chief guest during the celebration of second anniversary of Episcopal ministry by North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Onesimus and Florence Asiimwe in a function held at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Western division Rukungiri municipality.

Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa was represented by the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata who said that the government values the partnership with the Church of Uganda.

Tayebwa revealed that it is heartwarming to note the generous contribution Bishop Asiimwe is making advancement of education and other social services to the people of Uganda especially reviving of Makobore High School and Kinyasano Girls.

Hon. Tayebwa also commended Bishop Onesimus for his role in shaping Ugandans into responsible citizens and empowering them to improve their livelihoods through coffee growing.

He contributed 20M shillings towards the completion of Emmanuel Cathedral Church which is under construction.

Also through Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata, the Minister for Security also the Rujumbura County Member of Parliament Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi commended Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for preaching the gospel of unity, tolerance and reconciliation. Minister Jim Muhwezi contributed 5M shillings to support the ongoing construction of the church and Hon.

Midius herself contributed 2M shillings. Rukungiri Municipality legislator Hon. Dr. Rutahigwa also contributed 2 million shillings that was also delivered by Hon Medius Natukunda Kaharata.

Meanwhile Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, urged residents of Rukungiri to refrain from political divisionism as the nation approaches election season.

Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe retaliated his earlier call warning the clergy to refrain from politics but rather put emphasis on preaching the gospel.

The function was graced by a number of dignitaries including Canon Johnson Byabashaija, the commissioner General of Uganda Prisons, Gen Henry Tumukunde and Andrew Ankunda Kikira who are eyeing the Rukungiri Municipality seat among others.
