NEWS-Rukungiri district has recorded 79 Covid-19 cases in a period of one week, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen has revealed.

RDC Nsubuga was speaking to our reporter from his office in exclusive interview on the current Covid-19 situation within Rukungiri district.

Nsubuga narrated that it’s unfortunate that people have ignored adherence to Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures thinking that the pandemic had gone, stressing that this might be the cause of the surge.

He said that the 79 cases are part of 222 tests done so far since the fresh outbreak was reported in the country and Bewayo says they are being monitored at home.

Nsubuga Confided that most of the cases are now from communities urging the Rukungiri district community to be extra careful by following the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures at all times.

RDC also rallied people including children between the ages of 12 to 17 to get vaccinated as one of the ways to curb the spread of the virus stressing that the exercise will start on 21th June 2022 next week.

At the beginning of this month, Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said the country had started experiencing an increase in the number of daily infections, just like it was last year in January when the deadly Omicron variant hit the country, killing several people.

The Health Minister also noted that the Ministry is prepared to respond and save lives than before if the worst comes to worst.

Aceng also noted that there is no indication for travel restrictions or lockdowns in the current circumstances but urged individuals to ensure self-protection.
