Nyabiteete SS Roars Ahead of District Athletics After Dominating Sports Day

Nyabiteete Secondary School (SS) in Rukungiri District has set a strong tone for the coming athletics competitions after staging a successful sports day at its premises in Buyanja-Rukungiri, where inter-house rivals battled for honours and selection for district-level events.

The school’s sports day brought together learners for various athletic activities under the theme of identifying and nurturing talent. According to organizers, the main objective was to select students who will represent Nyabiteete SS at the district athletics scheduled for 20th in 2026, where they will compete against several secondary schools within Rukungiri District.

In his address, the Headteacher, Sabiiti Epaphras, said the day was not only meant for competition but also for showcasing students’ potential. He urged learners to approach athletics with seriousness and discipline, reminding them that sports and education can go together adding that Sports go with discipline.

Urging students to continue supporting themselves and to keep the spirit of hard work, because talent can translate into success even beyond the classroom.

Best performers from different houses including students representing Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda were awarded with gifts to support their education. The awards included items such as books and pens, as well as home-based gifts like plates, meant to motivate learners to keep striving as Uganda dominated the lead with a trophy.

During the event, some students expressed confidence that they will outperform other schools at district level, attributing their optimism to the quality of selection made during the sports day.

The PTA Chairperson, Beinomugisha Joseph, also called on parents to support their children in sports, emphasizing that opportunities at district, regional, and national levels should be encouraged rather than discouraged. He noted that many people earn through football and sports, mentioning famous clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal and others.

In the same spirit, the Guest of Honour, Rev. Canon Geoffrey Mutabaazi, Chairperson Board of Nyabiteete SS, thanked the school leadership and organizers. He pledged continued support from the board and stressed that sports helps maintain students’ health and discipline.
