Rukungiri Municipality has officially disbursed over 60 million Ugandan shillings to newly funded community groups through the Community Based Service Department. This significant event was held at the Rukungiri Municipal Council Hall, where the Deputy RDC launched the funding initiative.
Twesigomwe Johnbosco the Rukungiri Municipality Principal Commercial Officer said a total amount of UGX60,326,700 was allocated across nine groups in three main categories: Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEB) Four groups received 33,400,000 UGX to support women’s economic empowerment.
National Special Grant for Older Persons (SEGOP) Two groups were allocated 6,926,700 UGX, aimed at improving the livelihoods of the elderly. National Special Grant for People with Disabilities (PWDS) Three groups received 20,000,000 UGX, targeting the enhancement of opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Twesigomwe Johnbosco at the event urged the beneficiary groups to utilize the funds wisely and focus on their planned projects. He also to emphasized the importance of repaying UWEP funds to enable future groups to access similar grants.
Kellen Kagisha, the Rukungiri District Assistant RDC, warned against diverting funds from intended projects, as this could undermine the benefits. Kagisha noted that successful utilization of these funds will play a vital role in fostering economic growth and sustainability within the community.
Rukungiri Municipality Deputy Mayor Barnard Turyabawe highlighted the need for accountability and collaborative efforts among the groups to achieve meaningful results.
Baram Salongo, a representative from the Rwakabengo Southern Division, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that people with disabilities often feel marginalized. He expressed hope that this funding will significantly enhance their livelihoods and create more inclusive opportunities.
