Rtd. Capt. Dononzio Mugaabe Kahonda, the Member of Parliament for Ruhinda South Mitooma and the aspiring member of parliament on an independent ticket , today called on residents of Kabiira Subcounty to prioritize accountability in the upcoming elections. Speaking at a campaign rally, Kahonda urged voters to choose leaders based on their ability to fulfill promises, particularly as the nation gears up for the general elections set for January next year.
Kahonda expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer elections in July. However, he pointed out significant challenges, including voter intimidation, that marred the electoral process. This experience led him to run as an independent candidate, emphasizing the importance of fair elections and integrity among leaders.
Kahonda stressed that their community deserves representatives who set realistic and achievable goals citing that it is crucial to elect leaders who genuinely care about our welfare, rather than those who make grandiose promises they cannot keep, He highlighted an encouraging trend, noting that areas that previously did not support him in the NRM primaries are now expressing their intent to vote for him due to his proven commitment to development.

Kahonda’s records of achievement are worth noting. He successfully facilitated the extension of electricity and the construction of roads across various areas in Ruhinda South. “While there are still a few regions without electricity, my administration has made significant strides in ensuring basic services for all,” he stated. He also highlighted the achievement of providing safe water to every subcounty in Ruhinda South as a key milestone of his tenure.
Additionally, Kahonda played a pivotal role in the division of Ruhinda County into two constituencies, enhancing governance and representation for the residents. He urged voters to remember his symbol on the ballot—the chair—while also calling for continued support for President Museveni, stressing the importance of sustained development in the region.
Addressing rumors surrounding his independence, Kahonda reassured constituents of his dedication to the NRM ideals, citing the Vice President of Uganda’s independent status as a testament that party affiliation should not negate commitment to serving the people.
