In a powerful display of advocacy for human rights, Hon. Ampurire Aliban Rukundo, the former aspiring candidate for Rubabo County for the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), urged citizens to unite against abductions and injustices in Uganda. Aliban made this rallying call during the launch of his new initiative, “The Revolution for Freedom,” held today at Rozera Gardens Hotel in the Ekihindii Rwakabengo Ward of Rukungiri Municipality.

At the event, Aliban highlighted the urgent need to address the plight of political prisoners in Uganda. He specifically called for the release of prominent opposition figures like Dr. Kizza Besigye, Sam Mugumya, and Sarah Birete, stressing that the opposition remains largely unaware of Mugumya’s current location. “We demand transparency from those in power. Families deserve to know where their loved ones are,” he stated fervently.

Aliban commended the efforts of journalists, politicians, and church leaders who have rallied to support political prisoners, thanking them for their bravery and commitment. His message resonated deeply with those present, as he emphasized that the struggle for freedom is a shared responsibility that transcends individual political affiliations.

Cue in Aliban on injustices

The PFF leader did not hold back in his criticism of the incumbent MP for Rubabo County, Hon. Naboth Namanya. During a recent burial ceremony, Namanya praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, stating that he supported the NRM candidate because Dr. Besigye, the founder of PFF, is incarcerated. Aliban expressed his disappointment, labeling Namanya’s actions as a betrayal to the values that PFF stands for. “It is disheartening to see a PFF flag bearer distributing NRM materials while our comrades suffer in prison,” he remarked.

In a move that underscored his commitment to integrity within the party, Aliban called on Hon. Namanya to publicly acknowledge his missteps and apologize to PFF members by January 9, 2026. “Trust is paramount in politics, and we cannot move forward without accountability,” he asserted.

As the event concluded, Aliban rallied the citizens of Rukungiri District to vote for PFF candidates in the upcoming elections. “This is not just a vote; it is a statement against the injustices faced by our comrades,” he urged. With the launch of “The Revolution for Freedom,” Aliban Rukundo is not only positioning himself as a voice for the oppressed but also galvanizing a movement toward greater political accountability in Uganda.
