In a fervent campaign stop in Rukungiri District, Major General Mugisha Muntu, the presidential candidate for the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), and also the former president for Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) unveiled his vision for Uganda’s future, pledging to prioritize development, equality, and the rule of law if elected in the 2026 elections. Addressing a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Muntu emphasized the critical need for comprehensive improvements in various sectors that directly impact the daily lives of Ugandans.
This campaign event, part of Muntu’s Western Uganda tour, highlighted his commitment to advancing infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security. “We need improved schools, better hospitals, and reliable electricity,” Muntu stated. “Well-developed transport and communication networks are essential for enhancing the well-being of all Ugandans.” His vision encompasses a Uganda where every citizen has access to quality services and opportunities, a call to action that resonated with many attendees.
Muntu did not shy away from addressing the ongoing challenges in Uganda’s legal environment, stressing the importance of equality in law enforcement. He pointed to the unlawful detentions of political figures such as Colonel Dr. Kiiza Besigye and Hajj Abed Rutaale, emphasizing that these disparities pose a significant threat to democracy and human rights. “Every Ugandan deserves equal treatment under the law,” he asserted, urging citizens to join the fight for justice and against abuses that undermine their rights.
In addition to his focus on governance, Muntu stressed the necessity for a peaceful transition of power. “Uganda must see genuine change, and that begins with electing leaders who prioritize the nation’s interests over personal gains,” he remarked. As he calls for the electorate to vote him in as a replacement for long-time President Yoweri Museveni, he has been vocal about the need for accountability and transparency in leadership.
Muntu concluded his address by encouraging not only political participation but active engagement in civic duties. He appealed to Ugandans to scrutinize candidates and support those who exhibit integrity and are committed to the nation’s collective progress.
